Lakeside wedding ceremony?… What a great wedding idea!
A cottage up North are magic words in the middle of a hot summer. Your mind starts imagining a log cabin on the edge of a lake with its sharp roof-slope and hundreds of trees isolating you from any road. A canoe floating next to a small dock, a cold beer in your hand and just plain silence. It’s you and nature and maybe some rowdy kids jumping off from a raft in the middle of the lake. So needless to say that when I heard the details I thought “lakeside wedding ceremony? what a great idea”
Lakeside wedding ceremony?..Means a very long drive
Getting to most cottages up North does takes a fairly long drive. Being far from civilization is the idea after all. However, Tammy and Dave’s cottage was a bit further than most. It took me almost two hours just to get to the meeting point which was a convenience store on the border of Quebec and Ontario, where the main road ends and the dirt road begins.
What does this store sell the most you ask? Beer, of course! Inside you could find just about any North American beer you could think of and many European brands too.
The Minister was already there and Dave, the groom, showed up shortly after. Tammy was already at the cottage getting ready. After few introductions and some last detail verification, we started our way on the dirt road. Dave warned us that no telephone company has any service beyond the main road so we could not communicate once we ventured into the woods. Yes, the 21st Century stopped at the beer store.
It was already mid-morning when we started our way hoping to arrive at our destination by noon, the best time for outdoor photography (NOT!). It was a real narrow dirt road that was wide enough for a bit more than one car. It’s a good thing not many people venture there, we did not see even one car coming from the other way. We were alone on the road the whole time. It was a long and bumpy hour and a half later and we finally arrived at Tammy and Dave’s cottage.
It was exactly as I imagined it
The cottage was nestled just off the dirt road at the end of a long and well taken care of driveway. There were so many trees that even the lake was hidden. I got out of my car and in front of me was this beautiful log cabin with a sharp roof painted in light brown and teal. A short walk around it revealed a magnificent blue lake that stretched for miles and its beginning was not even ten meters from the edge of the cottage. That’s where the ceremony took place. What a perfect place for such an intimate event.
Tammy told me that the cottage is their sanctuary in most of the summer weekends and many winter weekends. They love it and that’s why they decided to do the lakeside wedding ceremony. However, they did not want to subject all their guests to this long drive and fittingly so invited only a handful of people to witness their wedding ceremony. They will meet the rest of the guests later on at the hall for the reception.
A vintage touch
One of the highlights of this day was their limo, a 54′ Chevy driven by their friend. It was a beautiful black Chevy with reddish tan interior. Hopefully I will do many more weddings in similar beautiful settings, it was a change from the more traditional Churches and Synagogues in which most weddings take place.
Tammy and Dave decided to bring their children to the ceremony. As I mentioned previously, to save the trouble of the long travel to the cottage, they decided to ask only a small number of guests to be there and they included their children. Good, because they were looking absolutely gorgeous. Here are a few of their portraits.
